Bryan 9 years agoSecurity error detected message - completely disabled Edge. Rang number spoke to Akshay, wanted £78 to fix. Managed hours later to close message, more by luck than know how. End task did not work for me. I have MacAfee, pity this doesnot prevent these kinds of messages, or fix when it disables a function. These kind of companies should be outlawed, surely this is illegal?(0)

Andy 9 years agoYou can just use the task manager (right click bottom toolbar), scroll down the list of processes and close the edge process (not the app from the Apps tab).
This will close the specific window with the warning without closing the whole edge app (which leads to reloading the same pages on restart)
It is not a virus, just a malicious script - just twats trying to get your money.(0)

Catherine H 9 years agoI received a \'URGENT MESSAGE\' on my PC saying unauthorised access had been gained and I should phone immediately. I got through to an Indian male voice who said the problem could be fixed for a charge of £78. I refused to pay and within minutes my PC had been disabled. A local engineer had to fix it but it had to be completely cleared of all my files and photos etc. It has taken hours of inconvenience, changing passwords etc to use safely again.
